Out with the Sorento in with Jeep ducks and waves!

I had no idea what I was getting into buying a Jeep! I’ve been a Kia Sorento owner for nearly 14 years ….it was time for a change. Something FUN! My word for 2024 is FREEDOM! Picturing myself driving with the top down, music going,

Working on seeing the good

Working on seeing the good

Last week we had our final walk-through for our new home in NC. Can you believe it was the first time I was seeing the house in-person?! We never thought we’d buy a home without seeing it in person but with the craziness of the

What I learned in my recent move FROM Colorado

What I learned in my recent move FROM Colorado

We are in the throes – I mean people are packing up my house as I write- of moving from Colorado to North Carolina! Craziness! I have been thinking a lot about how I am surprised by the fact I’m not that sad. Don’t get me wrong, I was shedding some tears yesterday, but we thought moving to Colorado and living out here was our absolute dream. It just has not been as smooth and dreamy as one would think. Our careers have been tumultuous to say the least. While we have lived in a home here for nearly 3 years we have not felt settled and I’m sure our job situations have not helped with that.

I always remember back in 2007 visiting my uncle in Florida and he lived just 5 miles from the beach but said “oh we’ll take the day off tomorrow and all go to the beach” because they hadn’t been there in forever! I couldn’t believe it but realized that wherever one lives “life” takes over – working, cleaning the house, doing the laundry, grocery shopping – versus when one is visiting somewhere on vacation.

Boxes stacked to the ceiling!

Add to that, stressful jobs we were unhappy in and when the weekend comes there’s not much energy to fight all the people heading to the mountains or hiking on the trails – it was just easier and more a need to stay home and rest, relax and get those chores done!

Don’t get me wrong, we have had enjoyable times living out here and I will truly miss the grandeur of the views of Pikes Peak every day as well as the sunshine and blue skies. But I look forward to a slower pace of life where there are less people and we have jobs that we enjoy and can look forward to our weekends with a sense of excitement and renewal.

Once I am licensed in NC, I plan to be very conscious in my decision-making as far as choosing a position, and thus far my husband seems to be fitting in and enjoying the people on his team at his job. We also plan to make the most of our free-time as there are plenty of golf courses around, lakes we can use, trails less than a mile from our home, and a cute downtown with restaurants, shopping, and breweries! As we move, whether across the country or just through the summer, let’s make it a point to live life more deliberately rather than letting life happen to us.
