Repeat Now = Better Later

Repeat Now = Better Later

Refresh your memory of where I’m at in this return to running journey here. Honestly I had to myself before I started writing this post! 😂

Here’s a recap for all of us: After initially doing weeks 1 & 2 of the C25k training plan I went back and repeated them both again. The second time around doing week 2 I felt pretty good without much issue. I even cancelled a weekly PT appointment and went 2 weeks! 🥳

I just did the first workout of week 3 Friday, June 21.

Week 3 workouts:

  • 5 minute brisk walk to warm up
  • 90 seconds running
  • 90 seconds walking
  • 3 minutes running
  • 3 minutes walking
  • Repeat the above (minutes warm-up) twice

This is the same amount of total time running with the difference being 3 minute intervals vs all 90 seconds. Fortunately I felt pretty good and all went well.

I saw my PT yesterday (June 21) as well and it’s nice to say I’m feeling decent for once! Everything is feeling neutral which is great. My lift score on the left decreased slightly so I need to focus on those exercises she’s given me for that.

Today I completed a second workout of week 3, which is the same as above.

Jen, my PT, and I discussed how week 4 is a fairly good increase – moving to 5 minute intervals as well as a total of 16 minutes of running (!) from 90 second and 3 minute intervals for a total of 9 minutes of running – and that it might be a good idea to repeat week 3 before progressing.

I also had the idea to repeat week 3 and instead of doing the intervals twice, upping them to three times which would be a good bridge between week 3 and 4 as it would be a total of 13.5 minutes of running. Making my own week 3.5!

At this point I have one more workout of week 3 to do. I’ll eval then if it’d be good to repeat week 3 as is or do a “bridge” week I noted above.

The idea is that if I take it slow now, I’ll have less issues later and also know how better to manage anything I feel or notice as they come up. That’s something I keep reminding myself of – better to take it slow and repeat weeks now to be better later!
