Make yourself a priority

Yesterday I had a long list of to-dos with things getting ready for our home to close in North Carolina. I also had to study for the required online written exams for my North Carolina dental license along with taking care of the dogs. On my to-do list was also to workout or exercise in some way, shape, or form. I’m back to the beginning with my fitness and right now the goal is just to do something everyday for at least 30 minutes.
I’ve found that if I start on my to-do list as I did yesterday, things get out of hand and next thing I know an hour or two has passed! After an hour of calls and emails I stopped and went to the fitness center in our temporary housing to workout. Even though it was just a 35 minute workout it felt good. I have started again with MBF, a Beachbody workout program which entails mostly lifting. I got a good sweat going and felt strong 💪

Taking that time for me and investing in my health helped me finish up my to-dos, errands, and get some studying done. It was a rainy day here and in the afternoon after studying a while I got sleepy. Earlier I had told myself I was going to take a nap today. I always say that I am and then never do. However, today was going to be different. I stopped studying, went to the bed and took a nap!
On my run this morning, I thought about all this and how important it is to make yourself a priority. I often put getting all my to-dos done first before I can indulge in a nap or “me time” but that is what has gotten me to where I am now – burned out, out-of-shape, and tired. It’s time for a change. It’s time to put ourselves first and know that things will get done in due time. To-do lists will always be there but we may not, especially if we don’t take time and make ourselves, and our health, a priority.
